Why I’m Running

For over twenty-four years, I have been a small business owner and practicing trial attorney in Nevada.

My legal career has always been defined by my sense of fairness.

Neither where you come from, nor how much money you have, should ever prevent you from being treated equally under the law.

As a two-term State Assemblyman in Carson City, I fought to improve our jury pools. Today, our juries better reflect the diversity of our communities. Additionally, I sponsored Harvey’s Law, to protect some of our most vulnerable Nevadans, and I was proud to champion Brooklynn’s Law to help protect Nevada’s children from gun violence.

I am incredibly thankful for the support of the voters and my colleagues in the State Assembly. But the courtroom has always been my second home.

In this race for Nevada State Supreme Court, I am the only candidate with firsthand experience in writing legislation, teaching the law, and being a practicing trial attorney with experience in both death penalty cases and in front of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

In 2019, I was honored by my peers as the Defender of the Year by the NACJ and the Consumer Advocate of the Year by the NJA.

AV Rated by Martindale-HubbellI am also one of the few AV rated attorneys in Las Vegas, the highest rating that Martindale Hubble bestows on an attorney.

But more than that, I believe in Nevadans.

I believe that if you treat everyone with honesty, courtesy, and respect, our laws can be fair, our courts can be fair, and everyone in the state can trust that justice won’t just work for the powerful, but for all people.

Throughout this campaign, I have been meeting with Nevadans from all corners of the state. Given our challenging circumstances, sometimes this is via Zoom, but listening to voices from across Nevada is as informative as it is inspiring.

I am humbled by the support our campaign has earned from across our state and I look forward forward to earning your vote and to becoming your next Nevada State Supreme Court justice.

About Ozzie Fumo

An adjunct professor at the UNLV Boyd School of Law, small business owner, and practicing trial attorney, Assemblyman Ozzie Fumo is a first-generation American who grew in Las Vegas.

A partner at Pitaro & Fumo, Ozzie is known throughout the Las Vegas legal community for his commitment to fairness under the law. A fierce advocacy for Nevadans from all walks of life, Ozzie will fight for all of us.

“Early on I learned about bullies. Sometimes they’re people, sometimes they’re corporations, and sometimes they’re even the government. That’s why I do the work I do, because I believe everyone deserves a defense and everyone should be treated fairly under the law.”

In addition to his legal practice and teaching, Ozzie is one of the few select members of the community to sit as a Judge on Metro’s Police Use of Force Board.

First elected to represent Assembly District 21 in 2016, Assemblyman Fumo has a track-record of success in our state legislature where he has fought to protect Nevada’s most vulnerable, our workers, and our children.

Ozzie and his family have lived in southeast Las Vegas since 1999. Together, he and his wife Ellen are parents and grandparents.

“I have over two decades of experience fighting on the behalf of everyday Nevadans. I don’t see myself as a politician, but rather as an advocate. I’m someone who loves Nevada and wants to do what’s right for everyone who lives here, no matter where they’re from or how much money they have.”
